On Wednesday, July 11, 2001, Dutch rock icon and artist Herman Brood jumped from the roof of the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. Often described as the Netherlands’ first and only true rock ’n’ roll star, Brood spent decades cultivating a life lived loudly; through music, art, and addiction. In his home videos, song lyrics, and countless interviews, he left behind a breadcrumb trail that offers unexpected answers to the questions sparked by his death.
This documentary looks back at Brood’s turbulent life using never-before-seen archival footage and intimate accounts from the people who knew him best. Together, they revisit the defining moments of a legendary figure whose explosive creativity and tragic end left a lasting mark on Dutch culture.
